LYNX  TRUSSED  RAFTERS
SITE  SURVEY  INFORMATION

Timber Frame Services Ltd. offer the facility of a site survey if required. This may be necessary if any of the following more common circumstances apply and will only be carried out following receipt of an order to proceed.
The client is unsure of dimensions required for truss manufacture.
The “as built” differs from the Architects plans.
The new trusses must match an existing roof slope.

The main benefits to the client in TFS making a site measure are (a) We take full responsibility for the dimensional accuracy of the new design and therefore ensuring a correct fit. (b) If we measure incorrectly we replace the trusses free of charge.
It should be noted that if a site visit is not requested or anticipated at time of quotation we reserve the option to request a fee for this service and responsibility. This will always be notified to the client for his approval before any attendance is made.

There are, however, some conditions that we attach to this service to which our customers should be aware to avoid delays and misunderstandings.

1. Safe scaffolding to existing eaves level should be in place and safe access to the existing ridge level for height measurements should be possible.

2. Existing eaves to be exposed both sides of building by removal of tiles and brickwork to such an extent that the wall plate, support and ridge of the existing rafter is visible and can be measured.

3. Access to existing roof space and an area cleared in order that full span measurements can be made across the building and ridge heights established.

4. Long term experience has proven that matching existing roof slopes  can be very difficult owing to a combination of a number of factors.

  • Deflection of existing roof causing an infinitely                                                   variable rafter slope.
  • Asymmetry of existing roof.
  • Variance in wall plate level and alignment.

5. Note that site surveys are generally carried out on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week and site attendance for measures/surveys will be programmed for the next available week/day. Please allow up to 7 days for the production of design details and up to 7 days for delivery of components from confirmation of our details.

Timber Frame Services Ltd. will take as many relevant dimensions as is practical and manufacture a close fit match but we cannot guarantee exact slope matches and some site adjustment may be needed in the form of levelling, packing and in some cases the provision of firing timbers.

TFS Ltd. do not include within our price any sums for this work or material, for which a separate provision should be made by the Contractor  elsewhere in his works.

Our representative reserves the right to decline measuring if the conditions are felt to be unsafe or the reliability of the measurement cannot be considered adequate for the purposes of  prefabricating structural roof framing.
